Shibori Sucaafu

Pattern: Shibori Scarf by Kim Hargraves
Yarn: School Products Laceweight Merino (100% merino, 50g, ? yds.), 1 and a bit hanks.
Needles: Brittany Birch US 6(4mm)
Cast On: July 6
Cast Off: sometime in January
Mods: I used 1" styrofoam balls insted of the pebbles mentioned in the pattern. I also made the scarf a little longer, about 60".

Use bolitas de unicel de 2 cm de diámetro en lugar de la piedritas que dice el patrón. Además hice la bufanda un poco mas larga como 1.5 m.

Comments: I had this scarf ready since January but now that I have no packages yet to show you and just a blue blob of St st, so its the time has come.

I love this scarf and I really don't have a good reason for not showing it sooner. I followed all the instructions in the pattern, knit the scarf (good movie knitting) little by little through the months and finally finished it sometime in December but with all the Christmas knitting I got to felt it till January. I tied the Styrofoam balls in a haphazard way leaving only a clear part to tie the scarf with a broach.

After one hot cycle in the washer it was ready, after drying the scarf was 35”. The resulting fabric is soft and fluffy. The only but is that is a bit short, and I like mostly longish scarves. It was a good experiment and something different to do my knitting.

He tenido esta bufanda desde enero y no le he posteado pero ya que no hay paquetes y solo una bola azul de St st que mostrarles ha llegado la hora de enseñárselos.

No lo había mostrado por flojera porque la verdad me encanto esta bufanda. Seguí las instrucciones casi al pie de la letra, tejí la bufanda (muy buen tejido para llevar al cine) a lo largo de los meses y la termine como en diciembre pero hasta enero me decidí a hacerle los toques finales. El patrón que elegí para atar las bolitas de uniciel fue bastante aleatorio y solo me asegure de dejar un pedazo liso para amarrarme la bufada con un broche o algo ya que sabia que se iba a encoger mucho.

Después de 1 ciclo caliente en la lavadora para festearla quedo lista, la deje secar y removí las boitas de unicel, quedo de unos 90 cm de largo ya seca.

El resultado me encanto, la tela afelpada quedo suave y esponjosita y ya puesta se ve preciosa. Lo único es que esta un poco corta para mi gusto y solo me la puedo poner deteniéndola con un broche. También fue un buen experimento y algo diferente que hacer con el tejido, la recomiendo muchísimo.

While I wait

I’m sad because I think the one package of yarn was lost in the mail, it was a beautiful yarn scored at a ridiculous price but it has been too long (even for international delivery).

To console myself I started 2 sweaters. First the Sunrise Circle Jacket by Kate Gilbert in Tahki Donegal Tweed on US 6. I couldn’t get the gauge of18.5 sts/4” and after a few swatches I had to settle with a gauge of 17.5 sts/4”, go down a needle size and a size. But so far all is going well and I’m getting the measurements of the size I want.

Estoy triste porque creo que el correo perdió un paquete de estambre que había encargado, el estambre estaba precioso y lo conseguí a un muy buen precio pero ya paso demasiado tiempo, pero bueno no hay que perder la esperanza.

Para consolarme decidí empezar unos sweateres. Primero el Sunrise Circle Jacket de Kate Gilbert tejido en estambre Tahki Donegal Tweed en agujas US 6(4mm). Tuve que disminuir el tamaño de la aguja porque no conseguía que me dieran los 18.5 puntos que te pide la muestra y después de varios intentos conseguí que me dieran 17.5 puntos de muestra y disminuí una tall. Hasta ahora todo va deacuerdo a las medidas que te dan para mi talla.

The other sweater is a top-down cardigan (my first) based on the Buttony Sweater but following the instructions of the Top-Down Cardi by Laura and trying to get something like this. I had gauge issues with this as well because the yarn (Araucania Nature Wool ) is much thinner than the one called for and I thought briefly in modifying the pattern but after knitting the swatch in US 6 the fabric it produced was not what I was looking for. So I knit one with 2 strands held together on US 10 and it was perfect.

El segundo sweater es un cardigan tejido de cuello para abajo en una sola pieza con diseño basado en el Buttony Sweater pero con instrucciones del Top-Down Cardi de Laura y con la idea de conseguir algo así comoeste. También tuve problemas de muestra con este sweater ya que el Araucania Nature Wool que estoy usando es mucho mas delgado que lo que te pide el patrón y pensé en modificarlo pero al tejer una muestra con agujas US 6 (4mm) no iba con la idea de tela que quería conseguir así que decidí tejerlo con 2 extremos del estambre juntos en agujas 10 (6mm) y quedo perfecto.

The yarn for these projects was already in my stash, which is good coz I’ll need the space when my lost package of yarn turns up (I can’t loose hope now).

Los 2 proyectos los hice con estambre que ya tenia guardado, lo cual es bueno porque la verdad ya se me estaba acumulando y como no pierdo la esperanza de que me llegue mi paquete hay que hacerle espacio.

Salina at last

Pattern:Salina by Kim Hargraves
Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed(50% merino 25% alpaca 25% viscose, 50g, 190 yds.) in 146 Herb , 7 balls.
Needles: Addi Turbo 32" US 5 (3.75mm) and US 3 (3.25 mm)
Cast On: sometime in December
Cast Off: March 7
Mods: I changed the cuffs a bit, I was supposed to knit them separately and then attach them to the sleeves but I knit them all together. The body was also knit in the round.

Solo las mancuernas de las mangas, el patrón pedía que se tejieran por separado y luego se unieran. Yo las hice pegadas al resto de la manga. Tambien teji el cuerpo del sweater en redondo

Comments: I love this sweater!! I made the size S (34”) because I wanted a fitted sweaters but as swatches are nasty little liars it turned out to be M (36”), but It doesn’t matter as I love the fit a little so comfy we’re even having some spring here so I can wear it.

The yarn is a dream to knit with and makes a very light garment but is a little itchy so I have to wear a light camisole underneath.

I made the 2 sleeves at the same time to avoid the Second Sleeve Syndrome (a more obscure cousin of the second sock syndrome) that I have suffered and don’t know why no one speaks of. Also to pair the decreases and have even sleeves.

This is the first time I knit a sweater in small needles and I love the fabric it produces, but as I have noted I tend to be a loose knitter son I should have gone down a size of needle to get a more firm fabric (and smaller gauge) according with the book, but the drapey, roomy sweater I got instead was a nice accident.

Me encanto este sweater! Trate de hacer la talla chica (86cm) porque quería que quedara al cuerpo, pero debido a que las muestras son mentirosas me quedo la talla mediana (91cm). El resultado me encanto, es un sweater amplio y comido y hasta el clima se ha dejado un poco para que pueda ponérmelo.

La verdad es que el estambre es divino para tejer y súper ligero pero esta un poco picoso, nada que no pueda soportar pero es mejor ponértelo con un blusita abajo.

Las mangas fueron tejidas al mismo tiempo para evitar el síndrome de la segundo manga (primo del síndrome de la segunda calceta) del que he sufrido pero nade parece hablar nunca. También quería que las disminuciones y el tamaño de las mangas fueran iguales.

Esta es la primera vez que tejo un sweater en agujas tan chicas y debo decir que me encanto la tela ligera que hace. Como yo tiendo a ser una tejedora con puntos mas bien sueltos debí haber usado agujas mas chicas para conseguir la tela mas firme ( y muestra mas pequeña) de acuerdo con lo que dice el libro, pero el sweater holgado y con una caída preciosa que obtuve fue un buen accidente.

Green Fixation

My favorite color is blue closely followed by pink, but for the last few months I had a green fixation that has definitely reflected in my latest knitting and yarn purchases.

Mi color favorito es el azul seguido muy de cerca por el rosa, pero desde hace meses traigo una fijación por el verde y creo que se ve reflejado en las cosas que he tejido y el estambre que he adquirido últimamente.

For starters, I’m finally knitting the Jaywalker by Grumperina in the Vesper sock yarn.

Para empezar voy a tejer los famosos Jaywalker de Grumperina con el estambre Vesper.

I also decided what sweater to knit next: Lace Leaf Pullover by Teva Durham in Lamb’s Pride Bulky. I just have to make a “few” gauge modifications because the sweater asks for a gauge of 10 sts in US 13 in St st for 4” and I have 12 sts in US 11, anyway the swatch looks pretty.

También decidí mi próximo sweater: Lace Leaf Pullover de Teva Durham en Lambs Pride Bulky. Solo tengo que hacer modificaciones “ligeras” al patrón ya que me pide una muestra de 10 puntos por cada 10 cm con agujas US 13 y yo tengo una de 12 puntos en agujas 11, pero bueno al menos se ve bonita la muestra.

Salina from Vintage Knits is DONE! After ages and it is the best fit in a sweater that I have got so far. More pics and details soon, meanwhile here’s a sneak peak.

And lastly one of my best friend since junior high is pregnant and that means…. Baby Sweaters! That’s really good timing coz I have been ogling a few beautiful baby sweaters and my sisters didn’t seem to think it was rational to have more babies so I could knit them sweaters. I’m almost decided on the pattern and I think I have just the right yarn in the stash.

Por ultimo estoy feliz que una de mis mejores amigas desde la secundaria esta embarazada y eso significa…… Sweater de Bebe! Esto es bastante oportuno ya que moría de ganas de hacer un sweater para bebe y mis hermanas no accedían a tener hijos para que yo pudiera tejer sweatercitos. He estado viendo varios ejemplos preciosos y todo parece indicar que tengo el estambre apropiado en el stash.

I love knitting scarfs

Needles: Lanter Moon Ebony US 11 8mm and Addi Turbo US 11 8mm
Cast On: January 17

Comments: I didn’t remember how relaxing is making rows and rows of a scarf seeing the pattern take shape and the colors change and mix, that’s definitely why I knit. Anyway, I finished this a while ago (I wore it a couple of times before it got warmer) but I hadn’t got around taking pictures. I love everything about this scarf: the yarn is expensive but to die for and the pattern is easy and perfect for variegated yarn. I started this scrumptious scarf with Lantern Moon needles but a while into the scarf the weight of the scarf and wooden needles was to mucho so I changed to Addis.

I still have I skein left of the same color so I’ll be making a matching hat and if I can fingerless gloves.

Ya no recordaba lo relajante que es tejer filas y filas de una bufanda, viendo como el patron toma forma y los colores aparecen, es por esos momentos que amo tejer. Bueno, termine esta bufanda ya hace rato (tuve oportunidad de usarla un par de veces antes de que el clima se pusiera caliente) pero no había tomado las fotos. Me encanto todo de esta bufanda: el estambre esta precioso aunque este caro vale la pena, y la puntada esta fácil y saca a relucir el estambre de colores. Empecé la bufanda con agujas Lantern Moon pero después de un rato el peso de la bufanda y las agujas de madera fue demasiado así que cambia a mis Addis.

Todavía tengo una madeja del mismo color así que esperen un gorrito y si me alcanza unos guantes sin dedos.
